Earthbound Freestyle Judo is proud to announce that we will be opening to the public on Thursday, July 7th. The class runs from 7:00pm-8:00pm, and is appropriate for adults (ages 16 and up) of all levels. Our program is located at Extreme Martial Arts Center, 359 Boyle Road, Selden, NY 11784. We’re in Boyle Road Plaza, directly behind 7-11.
Our classes are no-gi, which means that traditional Japanese uniforms/kimonos/gis will not be worn, as you would see in a typical Judo, Karate, or Jiu Jitsu class. Because our philosophy is to teach Judo according to the student’s attire , there is no set uniform requirement. However, we suggest that students dress comfortably. Jeans and a loose-fitting t-shirt would not make for a comfortable Judo experience! Common no-gi attire would be a rashguard and board shorts. T-shirt and shorts works well too. Under-armour shirts, sports bras, spandex pants/board shorts combo, and other attire you would see in a gym are all acceptable.
After July 7th, classes will be run every Thursday from 7:00pm-8:00pm, and Saturdays from 1:00-2:00pm.
Judo is a fun, accessible martial art that is practiced by men and women all over the world. It consists primarily of hip, hand, shoulder, and leg-based takedowns, as well as submission grappling holds. One of only two martial arts officially recognized as an Olympic Sport, Judo has produced world famous competitors and MMA fighters such as former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey, Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison, and MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.
Earthbound Freestyle Judo isn’t your typical Judo class. Our program is designed to educate adults of all ability levels, from the beginner to the serious athlete. Your fitness level will increase exponentially from doing our class warmup, which includes a variety of Judo-practical mixed martial arts exercises. When we drill throws, holds, and submissions, the purpose is to educate and inspire you, not beat your body up. We work hard, but we work smart, in a Judo program that has been designed to maximize your results.
